Rodrigo Carreras Jiménez
Thanks to his extraordinary diplomatic work and great friendship with Israel, with the Jewish people and with the Jewish Community in Costa Rica, Ambassador Rodrigo Carreras was awarded the Jerusalem Prize last Sunday, September 11, at the Centro Israelita Sionista de Costa Rica (Jewish Community Center). Ambassador Carreras was a diplomatic representative of Costa Rica in various countries. Brazil, Turkey, Nicaragua, Cuba and Israel, where he worked hard throughout his long diplomatic career.
"Receiving the Jerusalem Award surprised me, I am under the orders of the CIS, the World Zionist Organization and the beloved Municipality of Jerusalem, accepting it with personal humility, pride as the first Costa Rican, and with family joy," said Ambassador Rodrigo Carreras in his award acceptance speech.

Elizabeth Odio Benito is a Costa Rican judge, politician and lawyer, activist for the eradication of violence against women. - She was the president of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR), since she assumed in the period 2020-2021.- She was a judge of the IACHR (2016-2022), as well as a judge of the International Criminal Court (2003-2012) and of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (1993-1998). -She was twice appointed Minister of Justice of Costa Rica and became Second Vice President of the Republic (1998-2002). In all of her positions, Odio Benito acted in favor of raising awareness among the people regarding anti-Semitism and the importance of combating it. For all this, added to her constant defense in favor of the rights of our people, and for representing the values of justice, equality and fraternity among peoples, Elizabeth Odio Benito is receiving the Jerusalem Prize for 2023.
